| We are committed to the safe
and proper management of dry cleaning solvents and wastes.
We use perchloroethylene (“perc”)
for garment cleaning because of its excellent cleaning properties.
Perc is safe to use on all common textiles, fibers and dyes. Also,
because of our state of the art technology, it is free of residual
odor and is energy efficient.
Perc is toxic – we have implemented
procedures to ensure it is safely handled. Perc’s toxicity
falls in the same low classification as many every day compounds
including household ammonia or bleach, gasoline, antifreeze, nail
polish remover and many widely used products. The US EPA has established
that perc does not contribute to smog formation in our atmosphere.
It doesn’t react with the protective ozone layer and it is
not a “greenhouse” gas that could lead to global warming.
Properly processed garments contain only trace
amounts of solvent easily removed from clothes through rapid drying.
Typically, just 1 fluid ounce of perc is needed to dry clean about
2 ½ tons of clothing.
As an alternative to Perc, several of our
stores use the newest alternative solvent, DF2000. It adds
richness to the garment's natural color while bathing the material
in a mild and odorless fluid, leaving the finished garment comfortably
soft. Participating stores include our 1685 S. Colorado Blvd., 1430
Krameria Street, 2420 E. Arapahoe Rd. and 8101 E. Bellview (DTC)
stores in the Denver metro area, as well as our 17745 Cottonwood
Drive store in Parker and our 2525 Arapahoe Ave. store in Boulder.
